What is TMS?

TMS stands for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. TMS is drug-free, non-invasive and FDA approved. The treatment involves placing a medical helmet on the patient’s head which then sends painless magnetic pulses to underactive parts of the brain that control mood and contribute to depression. Michigan Advanced Psychiatry utilizes Deep TMS which has shown to improve depression, OCD, and other conditions. Deep TMS has been tested in over 60 clinical trials worldwide. It can help patients who have not responded well to medications, or to a combination of psychotherapy and medication.

What Does Treatment Involve?

Deep TMS involves 6-8 weeks of treatment. Sessions occur five times per week and last approximately 20 minutes.

Is TMS Right For Me?

A provider from Michigan Advanced Psychiatry will sit down with you and discuss what you have been facing. They will review the other methods of treatment that have been tried, then determine if TMS therapy is a good option for you. If you have tried other methods of treatment for depression and have not found relief, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation may be a good option for you .
